Department Details

The Economics department of Mahadevananda Mahavidyalaya started its journey with 3 years undergraduate programme in 1974. At the very outset it started with only Science stream but later on Arts and Commerce streams were introduced. Initially Economics was taught in B.A (General) and B.Com (General/Honours) classes but over the years the department has expanded both in size and quality with increased number of faculty members and academic opportunities. In 2007 the department opened its Honours stream in undergraduate course.

Primary mission of the department is to train the students to be guided by the economic logic by which they can easily explain all the events happening around the world and understand different economic policies of the government like tax, interest rate change etc. The faculty serves with the objective of providing quality education which will motivate the students in higher studies after graduation for availing gainful job opportunities and enable them to participate in various co-curricular activities towards building up a better future.

The department offers the latest course structure at the undergraduate level following the syllabi of West Bengal State University. At present the mainstream Economics is taught following the standard syllabi of Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Development Economics, Mathematical Economics, International Economics, Public Economics, Econometrics under Choice Based Credit System. For the Honours Students the department also provides a good access in some advanced statistical tools and softwares towards completion of the Project work which is also a part of the curriculum of the UG-Honours students.
